Academics : Eighth Grade / Social Studies
The year begins with a comprehensive review of map skills including use of scale, road maps, latitude and longitude, hemispheres, and the movement of the earth.  Landform and water bodies are also reviewed. By participating in various activities and group projects, these skills are reinforced.

Our study of the world begins with a focus on geography and its importance to us.  We study the different regions of the United States: the land, resources, people, and important cities.

The study of New Jersey is an important part of the fourth grade curriculum.  The histories of the state, both ancient and modern, are learned.   State symbols, government, geography of the land, economics, and many other interesting facts about the state of New Jersey are studied during this year.

World issues, global connections, government, and citizenship are some of the other topics that are taught throughout the year.  The Weekly Reader publication is an asset to the weekly Social Studies routine.  Students look forward to reading about age appropriate current news issues from around the world.
